About Pearl Denture Studio
Pearl Denture Studio is a unique and elegant Dental Prosthetic Practice located in the beautiful Northern Rivers area of New South Wales. Dental Prosthetist David Smith is well known and respected for his ability to provide outstanding Dentures. In addition to being state of the art, our digital dentures are made from materials that are bio-compatible and tested. Our state-of-the-art laboratory is designed to not only produce excellence but also to reduce its carbon footprint, preserving the environment. We use the latest techniques and materials from Switzerland – well known for their excellence in precision technology.
Pearl Denture Studio has been providing all denture services to the highest quality for more than 31 years. Our latest Lower Denture Stabilisation Abe techniques are innovative and providing the complete denture wearer a new lease on life with outstanding results in comfort, stability and function.

Meet the Team
David Smith
Graduating in Dental Technology in 1986, David became a highly skilled Dental Technician in many facets of Precision Dentistry. Extending his qualifications by completing an Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics, in 1992. Founding Pearl Denture Studio in 1993 in the Byron Bay hinterland David’s experience and achievements in the following years have seen him be a Key Opinion Leader recognized by Ivoclar Vivadent for his expertise and pioneering efforts in the world of dentures.
David Graduated in Dental Technology in 1986, he worked as a Dental Technician in many facets of Precision Dentistry until he went on to study as a Dental Prosthetist in 1991. In 1992 he completed his Diploma in Dental Prosthetics. In 1993 David founded Pearl Denture Studio in the Byron Bay hinterland and after many years of practising decided to upgrade his qualifications to Advanced Diploma in Dental Prosthetics in 2004. David’s passion for further education has seen him at the forefront of Dental Prosthetics in the Northern NSW area.
In 2004 David also incorporated the BPS (Biofunctional Prosthetic System) into his practice, a Swiss developed system designed to improve the lives of people missing some or all of their teeth. 2007 saw David invited by the Master of Dental Technicians of Liechtenstein, Europe to become a BPS Instructor of Biofunctional Dental Prosthetics which is the foundation on which all treatments are based on at Pearl Denture Studio.
In 2014 David travelled to Japan to again upgrade his knowledge and skills to train with Dr Jiro Abe in all aspects of his Suction Effective Mandibular Denture Technique (SEMCD) or Lower Suction Denture. Professor Abe noticed David’s high clinical and technical skills and invited David to train to become one of his instructors, an honour achieved by only a handful of Dental Specialists, Dentists and Prosthetist’s from around the globe.
David has always been committed to provide the most up to date, high quality and technically advanced dentures to his patients in both his Mullumbimby and Casino Clinics.
David together with his wife Kim own and operate both his Mullumbimby and Casino clinics, he has 3 children Rebecca, Zane and Jordan. In his spare time he enjoys surfing around the beautiful beaches of Northern NSW and also riding his bicycle in the undulating hills of the Byron Hinterland. He is a keen fisherman and loves going off grid bush camping.
Kim Smith
Kim has managed the business end of Pearl Denture Studio since its beginning in 1993. Kim has a long background in Administration. Her first job after leaving school was working for her parents in a cafe in Ballina for 3 years. After travelling to the UK she was employed as an Admin Assistant for a Company of Surveyors in Byron Bay. In 1991 she moved to Sydney with David whilst he completed his Diploma in Dental Prosthetics.
During this time she was employed as an Administration Officer for a Pathology Company in Bondi Junction, Sydney. After David completed his Prosthetic Course in 1992 they returned to Byron Bay and purchased Pearl Denture Studio in 1993. Kim has many roles within the practice such as Financial Administrator, Managing and Development of staff and staff training and is the Practise Manager of both clinics.
Kim’s passion for her business has seen her travel with David both nationally and internationally and has sat in on almost every lecture/course David has undertaken making her knowledge of Dental Prosthetics impressive. Kim has exceptional people skills and her warm personality makes our patients feel warm and comfortable.
Kim shares 3 children with David, Rebecca, Zane and Jordan. In her spare time Kim enjoys lifting weights and training at her local gym, cooking and spending time training her two German Shepherds, Koda and Kiki.
