Lower Suction Dentures

Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Dentures (SEMCD)

Lower Suction Dentures or SEMCD are an advanced denture construction technique developed in Japan by Professor Jiro Abe by mapping the sealing mechanism of the lower jaw then developing a method to record this seal.

With lower suction dentures, maintaining suction on a complete lower denture is now possible. This latest clinical method can provide a cost-effective solution to the loose unstable lower denture, which has been offered by dental prosthetists as a solution for missing lower teeth for over a century.

Constructing a complete lower denture which can sit in harmony with the delicate tissue of the mandible (the lips, teeth and tongue) is one of the greatest challenges dental prosthetists faced. People are still losing their teeth and conventional denture treatments are just adequate at best. While dental implant retained dentures are an option, they are not always available to many due to health complications, cost or Dental Phobia.

The Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Denture is a treatment for the fully edentulous Mandibular jaw, developed by Dr. Jiro Abe in Japan. The precision Impression Technique of SEMCD enhances the “suction” effect of the lower denture. This non-invasive technique using a custom-made oral template for each patient allowing for the most ideal recording of all the necessary anatomical information required to best reconstruct and replace the missing teeth and bone.

The SEMCD Technique has become an indispensable treatment option for people missing all their lower teeth with the rapid spread of this treatment throughout the world a testimony to its success and the benefits the technique.

How Does SEMCD Work?

SEMCD dentures do not require the use of dental adhesives to hold mandibular dentures in place for prolonged periods of time. SEMCD dentures stay in place thanks to perfect suction achieved through taking an impression of a patient’s oral cavity. Pearl Denture Studio uses the impression to make a digital SEMCD denture.

How Are SEMCD Better Than Traditional Dentures?

Unlike traditional dentures, which typically have a large and bulky bases that patients may complain about as being heavy or uncomfortable, SEMCD dentures are state-of-the-art technology and are built on a lighter, streamlined base that provides a more natural feel.
