The process of getting dentures for the first time can be overwhelming, especially if you’re unfamiliar with what’s involved. Pending on your personal circumstances and dental health, full or partial dentures may be recommended. But what is the difference between the two? And what option is best for you? Although your treatment plan may vary over time, below is a short explanation on what you can expect with the process of getting dentures.

What is the process of getting full dentures?

When you have full dentures in place, you will have an acrylic base with your acrylic or composite teeth affixed in the dentures. These full dentures are removable to allow for better cleaning and maintenance and are manufactured to a high standard using the BPS® system. Unlike your natural teeth, your dentures are supported by your gum tissue.

Getting full dentures, a patient can expect to have a primary impression taken of their mouth. With this impression, a custom tray is constructed to your specific arches. This Impression replicates the structure of your gums and supporting tissues, enabling precise and accurate mould of your mouth. Your dental prosthesis will also determine the precise dimension of your bite.

What is the process of getting full dentures?

  • Consultation and examination completed by a professional Dental Prosthesis, discussing your treatment options

  •  You may be referred back to your Dentist for examination and treatment IF your treatment plan involves an immediate denture.

  • First appointment will involve taking primary impressions of your mouth

  • Second appointment is more in depth, this involves using the custom tray noted above, to obtain a precise mould of your mouth and supporting tissues, along with determining the relationship between upper and lower jaws and shade/mould of your teeth.
  • Third appointment is Try-in stage, where you are presented with a temporary wax fit of your denture; this allows you to see how your denture will look before processing to a finish. This stage, changes can be make to shade/mould of your teeth, and is to determine correct bite.

  • Fourth appointment is your issue, where your denture is completed and processed. Adjustments will be made at this appointment to ensure maximise comfort.

  • Your fifth appointment is scheduled for review of your dentures, assess comfort and make an adjustments required.

What is the process of getting full dentures?

What is the process of getting partial dentures?

    • Consultation and examination completed by a professional Dental Prosthesis, discussing your treatment options

    •  You may be referred back to your Dentist for examination/treatment and clean. This cements your partial dentures success. Any treatment required on your natural teeth is advised to be completed prior to construction of your partial denture.

    • First appointment will involve taking primary impressions of your mouth

    • Second appointment is more in depth; this involves using the custom tray noted previously, to obtain a precise mould of your mouth and supporting tissues, along with determining your bite and shade/mould of your teeth. Once this appointment is completed pending on style of partial denture (chrome or acrylic), your moulds will be sent to our laboratory for design and completion of chrome framework.
    • Third appointment is Try-in stage, where you are presented with a temporary wax fit and try-in of your chrome framework (If your treatment plan was chrome partial denture, otherwise for acrylic dentures this will be just wax fit); this allows you to see how your denture will look and feel before processing to a finish. This stage, changes can be make to shade/mould of your teeth, and is to determine correct is bite.

    •  Fourth appointment is your issue, where your denture is completed and processed. Adjustments will be made at this appointment to ensure maximise comfort.

    • Fifth appointment is scheduled for review of your dentures, assess comfort and make any adjustments required.
